As a member of the Trumbull Guards, Horrace E. Hutchins defended Gallipolis, the site of an important Union supply depot. He had been a farmer in Vienna when he enlisted on November 9, 1862. He served the duration of the war. After the war Hutchins and his family moved to Hancock County, Ohio. By 1880 the family had once again moved, this time to Olathe, Kansas, where Hutchins died in 1896.
